Moya Michael
Moya Michael is a dancer, performing artist and choreographer born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa. She has danced with the likes of Akram Khan, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (Rosas), Sidi Larbi Cherkoui and Damien Jalet (Eastman), Faustin Linyekula and David Hernandez.
Moya was nominated for a best dancer award at the ‘ITS’ Festival in Holland and was awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for dance at the National Arts festival in Grahamstown South Africa.
Moya currently resides in Brussels Belgium which is her base for creating her own work.
Moya has worked on commissions in India, China, Germany, South Africa and Austria. Her latest Works include ‘Darling’ in collaboration with Igor Shyshko which they still perform and ‘A_Part’ created for three talented dancers from the SEAD’s Bodhi project in Salzburg Austria. Moya is currently working on a series of solos and is aslo spearheading an open ended collaboration to take place in Pondicherry India in February, with a group of multidisciplinary artists from across the globe.
Moya is interested in ‘performing the self’ and developing projects with other artists and artistic fields and has an ongoing commitment to process, discourse and becoming.

About
Moya Michael est née à Johannesburg en Afrique du Sud, vit et travaille aujourd’hui à Bruxelles.
Elle suit une formation en danse classique sous la direction de Dianne Sparks et sort diplômée en danse contemporaine et africaine de l’Université Tswhane à Pretoria. Après son diplôme, elle obtient une bourse pour aller étudier à P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) sous la direction d’Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker à Bruxelles. Elle devient par la suite membre fondateur de l’ Akram Khan Company avec laquelle elle tourne partout dans le monde pendant cinq ans.
Moya reçoit le « Young Artist Award Standard Bank » pour la danse au festival National des Arts à Grahamstown (Afrique du Sud) en 2003. La même année, elle est nominée pour recevoir le prix du meilleur danseur au Festival ITs (Amsterdam).
En 2005, Moya rejoint Rosas, la compagnie de Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker et elle danse dans plusieurs de ses spectacles: A Love Supreme / Raga for a Rainy Season, D’un Soir Un Jour, Repertoire evening – Steve Reich Evening, Mozart Concert Arias, Zeitung and Rosas danst Rosas. Aujourd’hui, elle poursuit sa collaboration avec Rosas en tant que free lance.
Moya a aussi travaillé avec Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui et Damien Jalet (Eastman) pour la création Babel(words) et avec le chorégraphe congolais Faustin Linyekula pour The Dialogue Series: IV Moya. Elle a réalisé plusieurs commandes qui l’ont amenée à travailler en Inde, en Chine, en R.D.C., en Allemagne, en Afrique du Sud et en Autriche.
Ses derniers travaux sont DARLING, écrit en collaboration avec Igor Shyshko et A_Part, créé pour trois jeunes danseurs du projet Bodhi de SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance) en Autriche.
Moya travaille actuellement sur une série de solos dont la première période de résidence aura lieu à Pondichéry en Inde en février 2017 et réunira un ensemble d’artistes multidisciplinaires de différentes parties du monde. Moya s’interroge sur la «performance du soi», réflexion qu’elle développe dans ses projets en collaboration avec d’autres artistes de champs artistiques divers, avec toujours en toile de fond un attachement profond au processus, au discours et au devenir.
