About

Federico León was born in Buenos Aires in 1975. He is an author, theatre director, film-maker and actor.

For the theatre he has written and produced Cachetazo de Campo, Museo Miguel Angel Boezzio, Mil quinientos metros sobre el nivel de Jack, El Adolescente and Yo en el futuro, Las Multitudes, la Ideas and his last production Yo escribo. Vos dibujás, created in March 2019 at Teatro cervantes in Buenos Aires and then on tour at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Wienner Festwochen, FITEI at Porto etc…

In 2001, he wrote and directed his first film, Todo Juntos, in which he also plays one of the parts. This full-length feature-film was selected for inclusion in the film festivals of Locarno, London, Havana, Toulouse and in the International Festival of Buenos Aires.

Estrellas, his second film, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 9thFestival of Independent Cinema of  Buenos Aires. It was one of the strong moments of the Brussels Kunstenfestivaldesarts 06, and was shown in the festivals of Locarno, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Havana, Thessalonica, and Leipzig, among others.

He wrote and directed his latest film, Entretenamiento elemental para actores, in 2008, in collaboration with Martín Rejtman, the cutting-edge filmmaker of the new Argentinian cinema. This is a sort of filmed essay, edifying and hilarious, engaging with issues around Education, the processes of transmission between the generations, and intergenerational conflicts – all themes dear to Federico Léon.

Federico León has won a number of prizes including the First Prize for Dramatic Writing from the Argentine National Theatre Institute, the 2004 Konex Prize from the National Art Foundation, and the National First Prize for Dramatic Writing 1996-99 from the Argentine government.

In 2002 he was selected from among many artists from all around the world to participate in the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. In that context, he worked together with Robert Wilson for a year.

His plays and the film scenario for Todo Juntos, as well as his theatre-reviews, interviews, and essays on the creation process of his works, were published in the book Registros – Teatro reunido y otros textos (Adriana Hidalgo Editions). This book has been translated into English.

His plays have been performed in theatres and festivals in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Scotland, Canada, Belgium, Spain, the United States, Brazil and Australia.

Federico León also takes part, as a presenter, in international seminars devoted to art and the theatre. For example, in 2010, he was there beside film director Martín Rejtman, in the Programa de Artistas de la Universidad di Tella.

Federico León est né à Buenos Aires en 1975. Il est auteur, metteur en scène, cinéaste et acteur.

Pour le théâtre, il a écrit et mis en scène Cachetazo de Campo, Museo Miguel Angel Boezzio, Mil quinientos metros sobre el nivel de Jack, El Adolescente, Yo en el futuro, Las Multitudes, Las Ideas et Yo escribo. Vos dibujás, sa dernière pièce créée en mars 2019 au teatro Cervantes à Buenos Aires puis en tournée au Kunstenfestivaldesarts de Bruxelles, au Wienner Festwochen, au FITEI à Porto etc…

En 2001, il écrit et réalise son premier film, Todo Juntos, dans lequel il interprète également un rôle. Ce long-métrage a notamment été sélectionné dans les festivals de Locarno, Londres, La Havane, Toulouse et au festival International de Buenos Aires.

Estrellas, son deuxième film, a obtenu le Prix Spécial du jury du IX Festival de Cinéma indépendant de Buenos Aires. Il fut l’un des temps forts du Kunstenfestivaldesarts 06 (Bruxelles) et a participé, entre autres, aux festivals de Locarno, Londres, Los Angeles, Miami, La Havane, Thessalonique, Leipzig. En 2008, il réalise Entrenamiento elemental para actores, son troisième film.

Il a remporté plusieurs prix, dont le Premier prix d’écriture dramatique de l’Institut National de Théâtre argentin, le Prix Konex 2004 de la Fondation d’Art Nationale et le premier prix national d’écriture dramatique 1996-1999 du gouvernement argentin.

En 2002, il a été sélectionné parmi de nombreux artistes du monde entier pour participer à “The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative”. Dans ce cadre, il a travaillé pendant un an avec Robert Wilson.

Ses pièces de théâtre et le scénario de Todo Juntos, ainsi que des critiques, interviews et des essais de l’auteur sur le processus de création de ses œuvres, ont été édités dans le livre Registros – Teatro reunido y otros textos(édition Adriana Hidalgo).

Ses pièces ont été jouées dans des théâtres et festivals en Allemagne, en France, aux Pays-Bas, en Autriche, en Italie, au Danemark, en Écosse, au Canada, en Belgique, en Espagne, aux Etats-Unis, au Brésil et en Australie.

Federico León participe également, en tant qu’intervenant, à des séminaires internationaux dédiés à l’Art et au Théâtre. Ainsi, en 2010, il est présent aux côtés de Martín Rejtman, au Programa de Artistas de la Universidad di Tella.
